Spirit of Gravity -An experimental evening of music and Performance

27 September 2012 - 12:00am at The Coach House
Spirit of Gravity mainstays Dan Powell and Geoff Reader play under the photographically inspired moniker of The Four Heads, mixing mellow ukulele with hand percussion and electronics.

Then Daniel Spicer, of Radio Reverb and the impish improv sextet Bolide, promises spontaneous sound poetry and spoken word.

Daniel Spicer is a writer, broadcaster and improviser based in Brighton. He is a regular contributor to The Wire and Jazzwise magazines. He presents a weekly radio show, The Mystery Lesson, on Brighton’s Radio Reverb 97.2FM, playing new releases in avant-garde improvised music. He is a member of the chaotic Brighton-based electro-acoustic improvising sextet, Bolide. Daniel also performs solo works of sound poetry, spoken word and improvisation. His next solo release will be YLVMLVY, his second CD on the Slightly Off Kilter label.

While Carousel, a four-piece collective, combine home-made instruments and object-based sound sources with traditional instruments, all to electrifying effect. They will be performing a realisation of George Brecht’s Water Yam.
Carousel is a collective of four musicians interested in exploring the possibilities of sound and music in new and imaginative ways. Formed after a commission from the SoundFjord sound-art gallery to create a performance using an ‘object-based score’, they have continued to explore this area of performance and to extend it into collaborations and contexts that force us to explore sound materials in new way. Continuing to focus on object-based sound sources and home-made instruments combined with traditional instruments, they aim to collaborate with artists from as wide a variety of backgrounds and disciplines as possible and explore the core materials of music from varied perspectives and in many different contexts.

The core members of the group are:

Noura Sanatian

Charlie Sdraulig
