Roshi (feat Pars Radio) played a beautiful show At The Coachhouse last year and returns to promote her new album.
“3 Almonds and a Walnut” is the 2nd album from Roshi featuring Pars Radio, the band built around Welsh-Iranian songstress Roshi and her collaborator Graham Dowdall (Gagarin, Pere Ubu, Nico etc ). Roshi’s music includes her own very individual take on song Iranian songs she grew up listening to together with her own personal songs exploring her own life stories and evocations of time and place, in arrangements of keyboards, electronics, cello and found sounds. Roshi’s voice has been described as “a thing of quivering beauty ” and the music compared to the work of film maker David Lynch – they combine the fragility of Roshi’s beautiful airy vocals with electronic sound worlds , elements of South London Bass, industrial percussion – strange yet accessible and memorable.
The bands previous releases have been highly acclaimed including two experimental records of the month in Mixmag plus great reviews in the Wire, Froots, Rock and Reel, plus radioplay including BBC Radio 3, 6 music, resonance fm, NDR. Ahead of the album the band released the 7″ single “Don’t Breathe It to a Soul…” with a remix from David Thomas from Pere Ubu. This track was taken from a score Roshi was commissioned to create for Birds Eye View which was premiered at London’s Purcell Room.

David Thomas v Gagarin
David Thomas – leader and singer of the legendary Pere Ubu invited electronic cosmonaut Gagarin – also current 2nd synth player in Ubu to open for a recent US tour. Faceless US government clerks prevented Gagarin’s physical presence but were defeated by the powers of technology – David and Gagarin interacted nightly to create an extraordinary sonic melange of Gagarin’s glitched-out soundscapes and David’s telephonic monologues augmented at times by various farmyard animals.
Audiences across the Eastern US were captivated and astonished by the spectacle. This is a first chance for a home crowd to hear this new combo in the flesh – not to be missed.

Piano and guitar duo from Italy, living in Brighton.
Asem is a new but growing AV collaboration between musician Goto R and pianist and VJ Selim. Exploring the intersection between sound and video performance this collaboration concentrates on motifs and cultures from the ancient to modern and contemporary times and includes theatre, photography, poetry and visual arts. The Project reflects the multifaceted quality of its members, who come from different backgrounds such theatre, film, photography, classical and rock music and is conceived to make the audience experience a new kind of “Gesamtkunstwerk”.
They recently played a well-received AV set at Brighton’s Spirit of Gravity night.
